Wetland Delineation Workshop with Travis Richardson
On November 12th, 2025, SWFAEP was joined by Travis Richardson, Lance Hart, Lisl Townsend, and Erick Revuelta to host a three-day wetland delineation workshop at the T. Mabry Carlton Jr Memorial Reserve in Venice, Florida. We kicked off our workshop with a comprehensive zoom meeting to discuss the specifics of hydrologic indicators, hydrophytic vegetation, and hydric soils.
From November 13- 14th our Secretary, Sara Packard, and other environmental professionals had hands-on training at the T. Mabry Carlton Jr Memorial Reserve. Day one consisted of three separate mini lectures from each expert and ended with practice wetland delineations where each group was assigned a quadrat and tasked with completing a 62-340 form pertinent to the quadrat community. Our experts were thrilled to see the results of each delineation, and every group did a fantastic job!
Our last field day began with breaking off into small groups, after which were assigned a plot that required wetland boundary flagging. Each area assigned consisted of several habitat and vegetation communities to give the participants a variety of real-world examples. After the groups successfully flagged their boundaries, they were tasked with defending their lines based on reasonable scientific judgement. Our day ended with three separate mini lectures to solidify the workshop’s key points and tips.
We want to extend a huge thank you to our hosts for providing our participants with excellent online and hands-on learning!
